The United States is a country of immigrants. It is the great melting pot, a place that welcomes huddled masses yearning to breathe free. But few issues have proven so divisive as immigration during this election cycle.
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump expressed diametrically opposed views of immigration during the third presidential debate on Wednesday.
Trump has made closing America’s borders by building an enormous wall along the border with Mexico a keystone of his campaign. He has wasted no opportunity to disparage Mexican immigrants as criminals, drug dealers, rapists, and more. He and his supporters say immigrants cheat on taxes, steal jobs, and do no end of harm to the nation.
